Hi, I am a belgian/australian electric/acoustic guitarist, bass and oud player.
I do solo projects, pop/rock bands, impro sessions, as well as contemporary dance and theatre live performances and photography.
My music is a combination of different influences, involving acoustic and electric guitar techniques as well as the use of live looping and effects. I started by playing classical guitar and old blues styles. Techniques such as, fingerpicking with booming bass, the melody played on top and open tunings all became part of my way of playing. Later came jazz, which I studied for 5 years at the conservatory, Lemmens institute in Leuven, Belgium. I was taught by players such as Peter Hertmans and Pierre Van Dormael.
Then, I went to Kolkata, India, where I studied Indian classical music. This influenced my left hand playing, moving more horizontally across the neck and developing sounds common to Indian music.
After that, I developed the right hand studying flamenco music with the maestro Jose Luis Balao, in Jerez de la Frontera in the south of Spain. Currently I am learning the Oud and Arabic music.
My various experiences with different music styles, cultures and philosophies in the West and the East have all flown into the music you can hear here.
Hope you enjoy!
